First Retail iGaming Cards Available Across 2,500 Stores
BetMGM has officially launched Canada’s first sportsbook-branded gift cards, now available at over 2,500 retail locations across Ontario. The move is part of a partnership with TAPPP, a flexible payments provider known for integrating retail solutions in the gaming and sports industries.
With this launch, BetMGM becomes the first online gambling operator in Canada to offer prepaid cards that allow players to fund their sports betting and casino accounts directly. The cards work by entering a PIN code printed on the back into a BetMGM account. For Ontario users, the cards come with a weekly deposit limit of $250 CAD, in line with local regulations.
Expansion of a Successful U.S. Program
The gift card program is not entirely new; BetMGM and TAPPP first introduced it in the United States back in 2021. Since then, the cards have become available in 15 U.S. states and have maintained an impressive 99% redemption rate, according to TAPPP. The success south of the border likely influenced the decision to bring the offering to Ontario, one of the most active iGaming markets in Canada.
A New Way to Fund Accounts Without Cards or E-Wallets
The arrival of sportsbook-branded gift cards gives players another option beyond traditional online casino payment methods like credit cards, e-wallets, and crypto. The cards can be bought in-store using cash or debit, offering more flexibility and access for users who prefer offline purchasing.
This solution also helps reach customers who may not be comfortable linking banking details online. With simple PIN redemption and no need for bank integration, the cards provide an added layer of privacy and convenience.
Ontario’s iGaming Market Still Growing
Ontario continues to lead in Canadian online gambling, with multiple operators competing for market share since regulation opened up. BetMGM currently holds about 7% of the province’s online gambling market, and the introduction of these prepaid cards could help it grow that number.
While no specific retailers were named in the launch, BetMGM gift cards are expected to appear in popular chains and convenience stores, offering widespread availability across urban and rural regions.
Responsible Gambling Measures Remain in Place
Despite making account funding easier, BetMGM maintains its emphasis on responsible gambling. Players using the prepaid cards are still subject to deposit caps and can access tools like GameSense, an educational program designed to help users play safely and set limits.
As more Canadians turn to online sports betting and casino games, the rollout of retail-based payment methods could signal a shift in how gaming operators engage with users. For BetMGM and TAPPP, Ontario marks the first step in what may become a broader Canadian expansion.
